According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from January 2006 to July 2016, college textbook prices alone have increased an astronomical 88 percent compared to only 21 percent that of all items. In other words, in ten years, college textbook prices alone have quadrupled in prices compared to that of all items.
If I may, I would like to tell you a true story. When I was a freshman in college, I bought a brand spanking new Introduction to Computer textbook with CD-ROM for $200 for my Introduction to Computing course. After taking my final for that course, I found out that the bookstore was not buying back my textbook because a newer edition was coming out next semester. Long story short, I spent $200 on a textbook that I only used for 4 months. Deep down inside, I was furious!!! Next semester, I compared the so called newer edition to its predecessor, and I was shocked and appalled that the so called newer edition was almost identical to its predecessor. The newer edition was maybe 10 pages different wording from its predecessor. In my honest and humble opinion, the truth is that the textbook publishers are aggressively robbing its students blindly, and the students do not know it! It is a well-known and prevalent problem that I would like to very, very much solve!!!
As an alumnus of Southern Polytechnic State University, Class of 2015 to be exact, I know firsthand how excruciatingly difficult it is for my peers (students) to sell and buy their gently used textbooks. I was once in their shoes. With that being said, I would like to alleviate my peers' burdens of selling and buying their gently used textbooks. What makes tonysplatform.com so unique from other competitors is that this is a statewide peer-to-peer textbook exchange, and students get to set their own textbook selling price. In others words, students can sell and buy their gently used textbooks from other students from different colleges/universities locally. Moreover, did I mention that students can make money on the side and in between classes by offering awesomeness tutoring services to their peers locally?
